What is VALL?
VALL is the ticker for the Vanguard FTSE Global All-Cap UCITS ETF (accumulating share class, ISIN IE000VAHT5T0). It's a passive, Irish-domiciled UCITS ETF that aims to track the performance of the FTSE Global All Cap Index — a benchmark covering large, mid and small-cap companies across both developed and emerging markets.
In plain terms: VALL is a one-fund global stock portfolio. Buy it and you own a slice of roughly 10,000 companies worldwide, weighted by size, in a single trade. It launched on 20 August 2026 and quickly gathered billions in assets — a sign of strong demand for its ultra-low fee.
What does VALL hold?
VALL tracks the FTSE Global All Cap Index, which captures about 99% of the world's investable equity market — the broadest mainstream global index available. It spans three tiers most single global funds leave incomplete:
- Large caps — the mega-companies (Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, etc.) that dominate the top of the fund by weight.
- Mid caps — established medium-sized firms.
- Small caps — thousands of smaller companies most rival global ETFs (like FTSE All-World funds) exclude entirely.
It includes both developed markets (US, Europe, Japan, etc.) and emerging markets (China, India, Taiwan, Brazil…), all cap-weighted, so the biggest companies get the biggest allocation and the fund rebalances itself as markets move. That's roughly 10,000 holdings in one ETF — maximum diversification with zero effort.
How much does VALL cost?
VALL charges an ongoing fee (TER) of just 0.07% a year — €7 annually per €10,000 invested. That makes it one of the cheapest broad global equity ETFs available in Europe, undercutting the popular FTSE All-World funds (typically 0.22%) by 0.15% a year.
A fee that small might look trivial, but it's charged on your entire balance every single year and compounds over time, so for a long-term buy-and-hold investor a 0.07% TER is a genuine, durable advantage over pricier global funds.
Is VALL accumulating or distributing?
The main VALL share class (ISIN IE000VAHT5T0) is accumulating — it automatically reinvests the dividends it receives back into the fund rather than paying them to you as cash. Your return shows up as a rising share price, and the compounding happens inside the fund with no action or extra tax paperwork on your side.
This suits investors in the growth/wealth-building phase who don't need income yet. If you specifically want dividends paid out, Vanguard also offers a distributing share class of the same fund (ISIN IE000CVUM3N6, quarterly). Not sure which is right? Read accumulating vs distributing.
What currency is VALL, and how do you buy it?
The fund's base currency is USD, but VALL is cross-listed on several European exchanges, each trading in its local currency. The same fund (same ISIN, same holdings) is available as:
- London Stock Exchange — ticker VALL, trades in GBP (£).
- Euronext Amsterdam — trades in EUR (€).
- Borsa Italiana, Xetra and SIX Swiss — in their local currencies (EUR / USD / CHF).
You buy VALL like any ETF: through a broker or investing platform (Trading 212, Interactive Brokers, Trade Republic, DEGIRO, etc.). Choose the listing in your account's currency to avoid an unnecessary FX conversion — the underlying investment is identical whichever line you pick. The trading currency does not change your exposure; it only affects the FX conversion at purchase.
Who is VALL for — and the catch
VALL suits the investor who wants a single, cheap, truly global equity holding and doesn't want to manage multiple funds. It's an ideal core for a passive, long-term portfolio — one fund, whole world, small caps included, at rock-bottom cost.
The catch: VALL is very new (launched August 2026), so it has only a short price history and, being newer and smaller than established rivals, may have slightly wider bid-ask spreads for now (these typically tighten as a fund grows). If you value a long, proven track record and maximum liquidity today, the older FTSE All-World funds like VWCE remain strong alternatives — though they charge more and skip small caps.
